This two-day class is a hands-on introduction to the subject of distillation. This arcane practice combines both science and alchemy to extract the very essence and soul of plants. Although in theory distillation is easy, like making wine, there is a great difference between industrial distillation and boutique distillation for therapy. This workshop will discuss the subtleties of distilling for both essential oil and hydrosol, and explain the differences in therapeutic properties that each method produces. We will examine organic, wildcrafted and conventional plant material and the unique issues of sustainability that distillation must address. Students will participate in every aspect from plant gathering and preparation to handling of the finished distillates. Class size is limited, please register early.
